Thalaivi: Madras High Court Grants Permission To Jayalalithaa’s Kin To Sue Makers Of Kangana Ranaut Starrer

After Panipat: The Great Betrayal, Kangana Ranaut starrer Thalaivi, a film based on late politician Jayalalithaa’s life, has landed in trouble. As the film goes on floors, the makers have found themselves in a controversy. Early this month, we told you Jayalalithaa’s niece Deepa Jayakumar moved the Madras High Court to seek a stay on two in-production projects - the film and a web series - based on the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s life. Now, here’s the latest development in the controversy.

Madras High Court has granted permission to Deepa JayaKumar to file a civil suit against the makers of the film. JayaKumar can sue Kangana starrer Thalaivi director, AL Vijay as well as Gautham Menon, director of the web-series. Earlier, Deepa had filed a case against the makers. In the affidavit, Jayakumar approached Madras HC seeking a stay on the biopic and web series alleging that neither the makers of Kangana Ranaut starrer and nor the web series’ production approached for her consent. In her affidavit, Deepa clearly mentioned that she wants the makers to seek her permission and submit the entire script to her beforehand.

Earlier, informing about Deepa’s move to sue makers, ANI had tweeted, “Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's niece Deepa Jayakumar (in file pic) moves Madras High Court to restrain the release of a biopic on J Jayalalithaa's life.”

A few days back, the makers of Thalaivi dropped the first look poster of Kangana Ranaut as Jayalalithaa. For quite some time now, the actress has been taking dance lessons and undergoing prosthetic testing in order to fit in the role of the character.
